Material Girl: Peace Silk

Most people are aware that materials such as leather, fur and suede are not cruelty free but did you know that silk production also causes suffering and death to animals? Traditionally the process of harvesting silk from a silkworm's cocoon kills the larvae inside. According to Fiber Organics

After a silkworm matures, it spins a cocoon around itself, wrapping one single filament from the outside in. At this point, in traditional sericulture, the cocoons are steamed or heated, killing the worm inside. This way the silk strand is unbroken, and can be unreeled in one single length.

The good news is that you don't have to give up silk in order to remain a cruelty free fashionista! Peace silk, also known as Ahimsa Silk, is produced in an eco-friendly and non-violent way that spares the life of the silkworm. There is however some controversy in terms of whether any form of silk could be considered vegan....feel free to write in and let me know what you think!

Recycled Peach Flower Necklace by Emi- According to their website: This item of jewellery has been cleared from a UK based high street store. The jewellery could have gone to land fill or have been destroyed by incineration. Both ways of disposing of jewellery are extremely bad for the environment as you know, some plastics take well over 100 years to bio-degrade so they could still be in the ground long after we are gone!

Re-vive Cofee Table Kit from Love Eco - Made in the UK from reclaimed and reconditioned steel factory tools, definitely a conversation piece! The kit contains the four table legs, so you'll still need to source your own table top.

Ethical Designer Spotlight: David Babaii for WildAid

I recently stumbled upon some fantastic hair care products which I had to share here with you all!

David Babaii for WildAid - Our products are free of sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals, and animal products. And of course, free from all animal testing. Even better, we further support the beauty in nature by donating ten percent of all profits to WildAid, the global wildlife conservation organization, to help save our endangered animals.

David Babaii was named "The King of Curl" by VOGUE and has an extensive red carpet styling portfolio.

The face of David Babaii for WildAid is the gorgeous and ever-radiant Kate Hudson

I'm currently using the Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner which smell like creamy sunset cocktails by the seaside :D Ingredients include: Cupuacu Butter, Wild Orchid and Blue Algae Extract! These products are a delight to use (even my boyfriend is sneaking some!) and it's even better knowing that you're helping wildlife conservation while conserving your locks!
